A Bridal Speech? Brides Are Now Making Speeches On Their Wedding Day
Bridal Speech… hmmmmmmm. It’s something that is happening more and more these days! Yes Brides are now making speeches on their wedding day. We think this is a great trend and hope it continues to grow and grow for years to come. Did you give a speech at your wedding or are you thinking of picking up the mic at your upcoming wedding? The great news if you are planning a speech at your wedding is that there are no rules when it comes to the brides speech.
This is because a brides speech is something that is very unexpected by your wedding guests as it is not a big thing in the past. Traditionally it’s the father of the brides and groom, the best man and finally the groom. As every wedding has the same people doing speeches we have become to expect certain things like the best mans speech should be funny and full of embarking moments of the groom. The dad will get emotional and that’s a given! But when it comes to the brides speech nobody knows what to expect as they don’t have much past experience to compare it to which is great for any bride who is considering doing a bridal speech.

The brides speech can go down any road she wishes, she can. Be emotional, funny or just grateful and thank everyone for making her and her new husbands day so special with their presence. I think the most important thing to remember when doing your bridal speech is to be yourself and be natural, say what you feel and you will be just fine. So the question after you decide to do a bridal speech, is do I prepare something or go off the cuff? This is totally up to you and depends on two things, are you planning a long speech or a short one that will consist of thanks. If you decide a short one you should just speak from the heart and there is no need to prepare anything. However if you plan on saying more than the classic thanks speech we suggest you jot some pointers down just to make sure you don’t forget anything on the big day.
So when is the best time to do your bridal speech? Again as there is no set rules on the bridal speech so you can do it whenever you feel. You might be replacing someone like your dad who is too sly to make a speech so it makes sense to do it when he would normally do it. Traditionally the best mans speech comes last so you can arrange to go just before he does.
So if you have decided to do a bridal speech we wish you the very best and one last bit of advice we would give is to start the speech early, don’t leave it until the last minute. You will have so much to do before the big day and be still finalising things the day of the wedding so adding writing a speech on top of all this is a recipe for disaster.
Also starting the bridal speech gives you plenty of time to perfect it. Read the bridal speech out loud and practice on your bridesmaids. Reading the speech out loud will give you an idea of how you will read it on the day and if you’re getting tripped up on certain sentences, just remove them. Think about it, if you’re getting younger tied sitting on the couch in front of your best just think how much harder it will feel in front of 100-200 guests. Try keep the bridal speech under the three minute mark as we don’t want to bore the guests to dead thanking everyone from your mum to the bar man. Good luck ladies!!
